Several dozen people are participating in a protest that’s taken the form of a camp out.

Across the street from the Homan Square police facility in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood, activists are calling a vacant lot across the street “Freedom Square.”

The protest began last week when demonstrators marched to Homan Square. In a statement, Chicago Police say “We continue to work very hard to uphold and protect the rights of demonstrators to peacefully advocate for their issues.

As always we will not tolerate any illegal activity or behavior that threatens overall public safety.”
