There are some events so over-the-top and out of the ordinary, they come along only once every 20 years.
  • Redmoon Theater, a Chicago performance group renowned for their imagination and invention, is throwing a food-filled birthday party that will capture their signature creativity. Tonight at 7 PM, Redmoon celebrates its 20th anniversary with a‚ Spectacle Lunatique, a ‘Mini-Taste’ that will allow guests to experience some of the most diverse and acclaimed food in Chicago. This‚ “Bombastic Birthday Celebration” will feature food from restaurants such as Blackbird, BOKA, Coco Pazzo, Tocco and Urbanbelly. Tickets are $150 for individuals and $625 for couples packages and will be on sale at Redmoon’s‚ website or at the door of the event if tickets remain. Redmoon Central is located at 1463 W. Hubbard. Contact the Box Office for ticket information at (312) 850-8440 extension 111.

  • March is the month of green. After the Chicago River has returned to its natural, post-St. Patty’s Day shade, Earth Hour will be upon us. Three years ago, Earth Hour began with a simple idea: the whole world should turn off its lights for one hour, once a year. Evanston’s newest French restaurant, Bistro Bordeaux, recently opened in the space formerly occupied by La Petite Amelia. Already an intimate setting, Bistro Bordeaux is turning down the lights and turning up the romance for Earth Hour with a dining room lit only by candles suspended from the ceiling. These glass-enclosed globes are beautiful even when supplemented by electric lighting, and are sure to be stunning on their own. Bistro Bordeaux will serve their regular menu, but reservations are recommended for the evening and can be made by calling (847) 424- 1483.

  • If St. Patrick’s Day creates a Guinness shortage in Chicago this month, you may want to brush up on your other stout options. On Saturday, the 13th, more than a dozen Chicago-area breweries will be on hand for‚ Goose Island’s Stout Fest 2010. Brewers will hand-pour more than thirty stouts ranging from Goose Island’s own formidable Night Stalker stout to Revolution Brewing Company’s super smooth Black Power oatmeal stout. The $20 entrance fee buys twenty tickets and includes a free stout glass. Stout Fest will take place from noon to 5 p.m. at Goose Island’s Clybourn location, 1800 North Clybourn. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (312) 915-0071.
