On Tuesday’s show, we heard about ongoing protests in Hong Kong over a proposed extradition bill there. Back in June 1994, Hong Kong was also in the headlines — at that time, because Britain and China were holding talks on Hong Kong’s transition to Chinese rule. Then-governor of Hong Kong Chris Patten attempted to institute democratic reforms before turning the island over to China, a move that Chinese officials did not receive well.
