Funeral arrangements have been set in Palos Heights for an Illinois State Police trooper killed when a semi-truck slammed into his squad car in Chicago’s northern suburbs.

Trooper James Sauter was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Interstate 294 near Northbrook Thursday night.

Authorities say his car was idling on the roadway shoulder when the truck hit it from behind, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.

The semi-truck driver was hospitalized for burns to his hand.
