This month a young man in the city of Volgograd was brutally murdered after he revealed that he was gay. In a rare step, the authorities linked the murder to homophobia. The Russian Duma is expected to pass a new law later this month banning the spread of gay “propaganda” to minors, and the city of Moscow rejected a request to hold a gay rights rally in the city.
