The Genesis Academy Summer Institute brings together young people, ages 15 to 19, from areas of conflict and uses the arts to strengthen and grow their leadership skills. Each cohort includes teens from across the world as well as teens from right here in Chicago.

Wendy Sternberg is founder and executive director of Genesis at the Crossroads, the non-profit behind the Summer Institute. She stopped by the Morning Shift to discuss the program along with three participants in this year’s cohort: Veronica Urbina Finelli from Venezuela, Ariba Qureshi from Pakistan and Safiya Simpkins from Chicago’s Southside.
