Geopolitics of the arctic

Geopolitics of the arctic
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the Arctic region has 30 percent of the world’s untapped natural gas and 13 percent of its untapped oil. Companies and countries will increasingly look to the Arctic to meet global energy demands, as climate change makes it easier to access the area’s resources. Heather Conley, a senior fellow at Center for Strategic and International Studies who follows Arctic geopolitics, examines the world’s growing interest in the region and what it means for the environment, energy and the region’s four million residents.
