UPDATE 5:09 PM CST: The New York Times is now reporting Hondros has died.
The conflict in Libya hit home today as one of our Getty photographers died in the field. The AP reports that photographer Tim Hetherington was killed in Misrata while “three other photographers were seriously injured, including a New York-based photographer for the Getty agency.” That photographer is Chris Hondros. The New York Times originally reported that he was in a coma, but later reports say the photographer died. Though we often can only imagine the circumstances that lead to a tragedy like this, today we actually have the photos Hondros was shooting before his injury. Take a moment to appreciate the trecherous work war photographers do.
