Zafra Lerman is an award-winning Chicago-area professor, chemist and peace advocate. She has dedicated her life to inspiring students, institutions and governments through the collaborative power of scientific endeavor. Lerman’s passion drove her to create the Malta Conferences Foundation. Its main work centers on a bi-annual peacebuilding gathering of scientists from across the Middle East. Malta VII is scheduled for November 2015 in Rabat, Morocco. For our Global Activism segment, Lerman will tell us about the challenges and triumphs of bringing together Jews, Muslims and Christians to create peace in the Middle East, through science. This week, Lerman was awarded the 2016 Andrei Sakharov Prize that recognizes “outstanding leadership and/or achievements of scientists in upholding human rights”. http://www.maltaconferencesfoundation.org/ (Photo: Facebook/Malta Conference Foundation)
