On this week’s edition of “Global Notes,” Catalina Maria Johnson introduces us to two bands that are making some noise in Chicago this week: Che Apalache and Making Movies. Based in Buenos Aires, Che Apalache is a four-man string band featuring members from Argentina, Mexico and the United States. Joining the show is Joe Troop, who previously taught bluegrass and old-time music for a living. Three of his students soon became his bandmates when Troop founded Che Apalache.

Meanwhile, two pairs of brothers make up Making Movies, a rock band based out of Kansas City, Missouri. Their new album, “ameri’kana”, comes out this month, and we get a sneak peak here on Worldview. Joining us to play some music in studio are all four members of Making Movies: Enrique Chi, Juan Carlos Chaurand, Andres Chaurand and Diego Chi.

Catalina Maria Johnson is the host/producer of “Beat Latino” on Vocalo.
