The Fulcrum Point New Music Project, in partnership with Chicago Balinese Gamelan, presents the 19th Annual Concert for Peace. This year’s concert celebrates the life and music of the late composer, environmentalist, and gay activist Lou Harrison, best known for merging Eastern and Western musical traditions.

For this week’s Global Notes segment, we hear Harrison’s music and discuss his legacy with Stephen Burns, founder and artistic director of the Fulcrum Point New Music Project. Joining Burns is Claire Fassnacht, a Balinese gamelan musician and dancer. She’s founder and director of Chicago Balinese Gamelan. Fassnacht, and a few of her bandmates, will perform for us a beautiful composition in honor of Harrison in WBEZ’s Jim and Kay Mabie Performance Studio.

Fulcrum Point’s Concert for Peace happens Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.  at the Merit School of Music, 38 S. Peoria in Chicago.
