In 2012, passengers on a delayed Air Canada flight from Toronto to Frankfurt were treated to an impromptu concert from a self-described “Balkan-Klezmer-Gypsy-Party-Punk-Super Band.” Lemon Bucket Orkestra was heading to one of their very first European tours in Romania.

Five years, a Juno Award nomination, and a few albums later, the Toronto-based group still reaches new audiences. Their latest album, If I Had the Strength, was released last month. The band is in New York to put on a self-described “immersive guerilla folk opera,” called Counting Sheep Revolution.

For Global Notes, Worldview producer Julian Hayda introduces us to Lemon Bucket’s creator, Mark Marczyk. We’ll also drop samples of the Lemon Bucket Orekstra.
