This week on Global Notes…we reach into the archives and bring you the sounds of the cuica. The cuica is a Brazilian percussion instrument thought by some to have originated in Africa and brought to Brazil by Bantu slaves. The drum sounds like a sorrowful cry. Join Jerome McDonnell and WBEZ’s Tony Sarabia as they hear the cuica performed by Brazilian musician Felipe Fraga. Performing with Felipe are Silvia Manrique, Luciano Antonio and Edinho Gerber.
