Governor Bruce Rauner canceled Thursday’s meeting with Democrats over a new state budget. The state’s current spending expires in three weeks. In a statement, Rauner’s spokesman says if Democrats want a budget then they need to come to the next meeting with a proposal. Instead, he says they’ve been unprepared.

A spokesman for House Speaker Michael Madigan says it’s the role of the governor to introduce budgets and he wouldn’t predict when they’ll meet again.
