Earlier this month Governor Rauner was on Morning Shift talking about his budget proposals. At about that time there was talk that the governor was getting set to run campaign style TV ads as part of his strategy for getting democrats to agree with items on his agenda. He said he didn’t want to speculate on those ads. The ads came out yesterday and mostly take aim at democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan. So what does this latest move by the governor mean for ongoing budget negotiations? Have legislators used this tactic before to push their agenda, especially when it’s NOT election season? We talk to Christopher Mooney, Director of the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois, for analysis.(Flickr/JanetandPhil)
