Last week representatives from the U.S. government defended the United States’ record of compliance with the Convention Against Torture. They put their case before the United Nations Committee against Torture, along with a number of others, including representatives from the Marjorie Kovler Center in Chicago. The Marjorie Kovler Center was one of several organizations from Chicago and throughout the U.S. who went before the committee to advocate for greater rights for torture victims. Mary Lynn Everson, the senior director of the Marjorie Kovler Center, joins us to talk about why her organization believes torture victims in the U.S. are not able to get the kind of rehabilitation they deserve.
