Groups that work with immigrants in Chicago are worried that few young undocumented people are renewing their applications for temporary relief from deportation. Participants in the DACA program, which stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, have just 12 more days to renew their permits, if they expire before Mar. 5. Erendira Rendon of The Resurrection Project says she believes far fewer are attending legal clinics to help fill out renewal forms than there should be. She says some people may be scared to renew under a stricter immigration enforcement regime and others may be unable to pay the $495 renewal fee.
