Doug Cassel, a professor of law at the University of Notre Dame, has worked with communities in Guatemala that claim adverse health effects from gold mining. We get his take on Guatemala’s legal safeguards for communities and the legal framework in which mining corporations work. We also find out about the power dynamics between the people, the government, and large mining corporations. Cassel also specializes in the human rights responsibilities of transnational corporations.
