A local nonprofit that helps people sign up for the Affordable Care Act is overburdened this year and is preparing for an even more difficult period next year. During this year’s open enrollment period, which started last week, the Midwest Asian Health Association will help over 800 people find insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act. And more than a hundred are already on a waiting list.

The group’s director, Hong Liu, worries they won’t be able to help people navigate the healthcare system next year. Liu says her staff also provides counseling throughout the year, by helping clients find providers and pay monthly premiums.
