Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe started St. Monica’s school in Gulu, Uganda to help poor girls and women, many of whom had become mothers after they were abducted and raped by rebels in the Lord’s Resistance Army. The women are taught to sew- they make purses which they can sell and the income helps them and their families to survive. Sister Rosemary has gained international recognition for her school and she’s even featured in a documentary called “Sewing Hope.” She joins us to discuss her work. Dr. Derise Tolliver Atta, a psychologist and professor with DePaul University’s School for New Learning also joins us in studio.
