Chicago and downstate Illinois can seem like vastly different worlds. Leaving the largest city in the Midwest and heading south means more open space, lower taxes and less traffic. But in some downstate communities it also means lack of economic opportunity and feeling ignored by lawmakers. As residents head to the polls next month to vote for a new governor, the choice can depend on which part of the state the voter lives.
