A Chicago community group says thousands of the city’s Latino voters face losing their voter registration.

Chicago-based U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute says one hundred thousand Latinos risk being booted off voter rolls.

Chicago’s Board of Elections will purge them from the rolls within four years if those voters don’t provide a current address.

Institute director Juan Andrade says if Latinos want better leadership, they need to make sure voters remain eligible.

Andrade says, ""People need to remember that bad public public officials are not elected by people who vote, but by people who do not vote.""

State and local elections officials say minority groups and the poor are susceptible to being removed from regisration lists.

They move frequently and sometimes forget to inform local election offices.

The primary election is on March 21st.

Voters have until Tuesday to update their registration if they want to participate.
