Seventy-five years ago, the Nazis’ reign of terror against German Jews reached new heights. Jewish homes, businesses and places of worship were ransacked and burned. But not before all the windows and glass were smashed, which formed the name to commemorate that day-Kristallnacht, Night of the Broken Glass. Hundreds were killed, thousands were beaten and tens of thousands were arrested and sent to concentration camps. Some call it the beginning of the Holocaust. We talk about the history with survivor Ernie Heimann and Kelley Szany, Director of Educational Outreach and Genocide Awareness Initiatives at Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center.
