Homeland Security Scans Faces Of International Travelers At O’Hare

The Department of Homeland Security is taking facial recognition scans of international travelers at O’Hare airport. The department says it’s testing the practice at a number of airports across the country in hopes that it may make travel more secure. But a new report from the Georgetown University Law Center says the practice is error prone and the department doesn’t have congressional approval to use it on American citizens. Ed Yohnka with the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois says citizens have a right to know more about the program and what their data will be used for before they’re asked to participate. The Department of Homeland Security says it takes the privacy rights of citizens seriously.
