Hoping for “Deal of the Century,” U.S. Clamps Down on Palestinians
By Julian HaydaPalestinian issues have taken the headlines in recent weeks, as the Trump administration has doubled down on negotiating the “deal of the century” with Israel. The U.S. has zeroed out funding to UNRWA, the United Nations agency that provides relief to 5 million Palestinian refugees. The U.S. closed the Palestinian Liberation Organization offices in Washington D.C. The U.S. Department of Education re-opened a 7 year-old case that suggests boycotts of Israel on college campuses create a hostile environment for Jewish students. National Security Adviser John Bolton threatened to sanction the International Criminal Court if it took up the case of thousands of Palestinian protesters who have been shot in Gaza. Joining us to discuss is historian Rashid Khalidi, Professor of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia University, and Dima Khalidi, director of Palestine Solidarity Legal Support in Chicago and Cooperating Counsel with the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR). Both Khalidis will be speaking tomorrow, September 15, at 1pm at Alhambra Restaurant.
