The United States gained control of Guantanamo Bay in 1903. Since that date it’s served a variety of purposes and seen its share of hunger strikes. President Obama has vowed to close Guantanamo prison, but even if the prison is shut down and despite renewed ties with Cuba, it’s unclear whether the U.S. would relinquish it. Cuba has wanted it back since Fidel Castro came to power. We’ll take a look at the history of Guantanamo with Alberto Coll, professor of law at DePaul University.
