African Americans led the Civil Rights movement, but the cause impacted people of color around the world. As we reflect upon the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, we’ll ask minorities who aren’t African-American how the movement impacted them and informs their socially-conscious work today. Maria de los Angeles Torres is director & professor of Latin American & Latino Studies at the University of Illinois-Chicago and author of “Citizens in the Present: Youth Civic Engagement in the Americas.” Ami Gandhi is the executive director of the South Asian American Policy & Research Institute (SAAPRI).
