Illinois Republicans are split as to whether they should abandon Governor Bruce Rauner after he signed bill into law on Thursday that expands Medicaid to cover abortions. GOP State Senator Dan McConchie says Rauner’s signature underscores grave concerns Republicans have with him as their party’s nominee in next year’s election. He says a Republican primary challenger is very likely. But Rauner heavily funds the Illinois Republican Party — and the chairman of the state party says there’s no daylight between Rauner and the party.
