

Illinois residents must register assault weapons starting this month
The law doesn’t force residents who already own assault weapons to give up those guns. But the law does require residents to register them.
In August, the Illinois Supreme Court upheld the assault weapons ban, which took effect earlier this year. Residents who owned these weapons prior to the ban now must register them by January 1.
