A new kind of fentanyl is responsible for killing more than 40 people in Cook County so far this year.

Cook County health officials are still testing the potency of acrylfentanyl which they say killed 7 people last year, and at least 44 so far this year.

Officials say it can be thousands of times stronger than heroin and people don’t know necessarily know what drug they are getting. Acrylfentanyl is so strong, it can be resistant to a normal dose of naloxone, the antidote for heroin overdoses.
