The refugee camp known as ‘The Jungle’ is only a few months old, and is already one of the biggest of its kind in Europe. Close to the Port of Calais in France, the camp is the last stop for many seeking asylum in the United Kingdom. Casualties in the camp continue to rise as refugees attempt to cross the border by jumping on busses or trains headed for the Channel Tunnel. Shailja Sharma is an Associate Dean and Associate Professor of International Studies at DePaul University.
