Last week, when asked about the current Mideast peace talks, President Obama said, “There may come a point at which there just needs to be a pause, and both sides need to look at the alternatives.” His statement followed two other significant announcements last week. The first, that the Palestinian Authority and Hamas planned to form a unity government. That decision was met by a swift reaction from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He said his country would not participate in peace talks with Hamas, which both the U.S. and Israel recognize as a terrorist group. We’ll discuss the Israeli decision to suspend the talks, for now, with Roey Gilad, Consul General of Israel to the Midwest.
