The U.S. is not the only country where politics and debates over government spending can lead to a shutdown. The Italian government may be on the verge of collapse as well. A debate over tax cuts and the politics around former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi’s role in government may mean the tenuous coalition formed earlier this year could end in a no confidence vote on Wednesday. If that wasn’t enough, the president of Italy-based Barilla, the world’s largest pasta producer, sparked a boycott of his famed firm last week after saying he would not show gay families in the firm’s ads.
