Many sweeping changes have come to Chicago. Most of the public housing projects have come down. Reforms to the public school system have been instituted. But one thing remains a constant – the violence. It’s a disturbing feature of our city that, as he puts it, has come to beguile writer Alex Kotlowitz. For the last year and a half, he’s tried to get a better understand of what it is, and what to do about it. Tomorrow, he’ll be speaking as part of a conference on urban violence.
