Over the weekend a court in Egypt sentenced three Al Jazeera journalists to three years in jail. The journalists were found guilty of “aiding a terrorist organization.” The decision came after a lengthy retrial. In a previous trial, all three were convicted on charges that included conspiring with the Muslim Brotherhood, endangering national security and spreading false news. The trial has received a great deal of media attention. One of the defendants, Mohamed Fahmy, is represented by Amal Clooney, a prominent human rights lawyer and the wife of actor George Clooney. Clooney says she plans to seek a presidential pardon for her client. We’ll discuss the case with Yasmin El-Rifae, Middle East and North Africa research associate at the Committee to Protect Journalists. (Photo: Flickr/Peter Rhodes)
