Soon after an Egyptian court pronounced death sentences on more than 500 Muslim Brotherhood members, prosecutors remanded 900 more Brotherhood members to criminal court, where they also could face the death penalty. This week, four men in Egypt received up to eight years in prison for “committing homosexual acts”. The court ruled the men, while cross-dressing, held “deviant” sex parties. Egypt’s military government continues to hold numerous journalists in custody, while preparing for new elections featuring among others, the former head of the military, Abdel-Fattah Sisi.
