Your kid may not love nature as much as you do.

At least, that’s according to a new study from the University of Chicago, which found that children preferred urban environments much more than adults.

The study also found that kids on the older age spectrum were more likely to prefer the outdoors, suggesting a love of nature may be a trait developed and influenced by adults, rather than being inherent at birth.

But whether children prefer to play video games indoors or watch TV, experts agree that the benefits they receive from engaging with and learning about the outdoors is essential to their development.

So with a few weeks of summer break left, Morning Shift checks in with the Peggy Notebeart Nature Museum on ways to explore nature in and around Chicago (for both adults and children of all ages).
