Some Lake County residents are fighting a proposal that would allow mentally ill and homeless residents to move into a vacant building.

Nonprofit organization PADS wants to move fourteen residents into Midlothian Manor, located in a residential area in Lake Zurich. Some neighbors want to block that move. An attorney for the neighbors, Daniel Shapiro, said it’s not that they don’t want to help homeless people, but that the building does not have the right zoning, he said.

They want a judge to delay the project while they wait for a court decision.

PADS said it will work with the community to make sure the project is well-received.
