In July, Argentina went into default after a U.S. judge blocked an interest payment owed to holders of debt that was restructured after the country defaulted in 2001. The judge said Argentina could not pay that debt until it had also settled with a group of funds that had rejected the original restructuring deal and were demanding full payment. Now, Argentina is considering legislation that would help it skirt U.S. law.
