Under a government mandate, bodies from victims of Ebola are now being cremated on a mass scale in the capital Monrovia. But the government mandate has in many ways increased people’s distrust, which runs deep. More than two thousand people have died from Ebola in Liberia and the government has struggled to contain the disease. The Liberian community in Chicago has felt the impact as well. Many have lost family members. Others are working to provide their home country with much needed medical and humanitarian supplies. Artemus Gaye, an activist in Chicago’s Liberian American community joins us to talk about some of the relief efforts taking place in the Chicago area. Varney Sonie, a Liberian American from Illinois also joins us. His sister contracted Ebola while caring for his mother, who also contracted the virus.
