Lightfoot Gets Endorsement Of Willie Wilson

Chicago mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot received an important endorsement Friday — from recent mayoral hopeful Willie Wilson.

Lightfoot acknowledged Wilson’s endorsement during a City Club of Chicago appearance Friday morning.

“I am grateful that he is going to be formally announcing his endorsement of me, and I look forward to working with him,” Lightfoot said.

Wilson has scheduled a Friday afternoon news conference to announce his support.

The endorsement is significant because Wilson, who placed fourth in the city’s recent election, won most of the majority black wards.

Just 33 percent of all voters supported one of the top two candidates — Lightfoot or Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. They will be in a runoff election on April 2, and one of them will become Chicago’s first female African-American mayor.
