Elected officials in Chicago want Puerto Ricans devastated by hurricanes Irma and Maria to move here for help.

Congressman Luis Gutierrez’s parents moved to Chicago from Puerto Rico in the 1950s. The Democrat now represents mostly Latino neighborhoods on the West Side of the city.

Gutierrez got back from Puerto Rico Sunday night and says Chicago has already taken in at least 1600 people who fled the hurricanes.
