Online dating and hookup culture took a hit last week when Craigslists shut down its personals section- where men and women could find love, or a “casual encounter” i.e., sex.

The abrupt move was in response to a bill called the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act, which would allow victims sex trafficking to sue websites that facilitate their abuse. Craigslist issued a statement saying, “We can’t take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking craigslist personals offline. Hopefully we can bring them back some day.”

In the meantime, thousands of people who used it semi-anonymous service need to look elsewhere for love and sex. We talk with Eli Finkel, Northwestern University social psychologist, director of the Relationships and Motivation Lab aka RAMLAB, and author of the book The All-or-Nothing Marriage: How the Best Marriages Work, about what this means for the larger online dating culture. Plus, we open the phones to hear your Craigslist Personals stories.
