Richard and Mildred Loving were arrested in 1958 in Caroline County, Virginia. The couple was married legally in Washington D.C. but at that time, Virginia was one of 24 states that banned interracial marriage.

Richard was white and Mildred was black.

Their case ended up at the Supreme Court and in 1967, the Court ruled in their favor and the decision did away with the country’s last remaining segregation laws.

Their story is the subject of Jeffrey Nichols’s latest film Loving. Film contributor Milos Stehlik joins us to talk about the film.
