‘Making the West Side’ Digs Deep Into History of Museum’s Backyard

When Jennifer Scott came to Chicago from New York for a job at the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, she felt betrayed. Scott wondered why all her friends from Chicago didn’t share more stories about the rich history of the West Side where the museum is located. She had heard the tales of North and South Side divides, but wanted to better understand the history and people of the West Side. Scott is now spearheading a multi-year program with lectures, exhibitions, public discussions and performances called “Making the West Side: Community Conversations on Neighborhood Change.”

Morning Shift talks to her about what she’s learned and uncovered and what’s ahead.
