Chicago Mayor Richard Daley is opening the door to more ways to balance the city’s $420-million budget shortfall. He previously had ruled out using any of the $500-million the city got from privatizing the Chicago Skyway. Now, Daley says it’s a possibility.

DALEY: Unless everything goes into the bottom. Unless everything goes into a depression. That word is dangerous to use, the depression, but this is going to be a very difficult economy. I keep telling people and I keep saynig it’s very, very serious.

Some aldermen have criticized Daley for refusing to use the Skyway money to help balance the budget. Yesterday aldermen approved the mayor’s plan to have some city employees take six days off work by the end of next year to save about $13-million.
