It wasn’t exactly an Oprah-on-James Frey-intensity interview, but the 15 minutes I spent with Michelin Guide Director Jean-Luc Naret still didn’t have him apologizing for any of the perceived inconsistencies from this year’s first-ever Chicago edition, but rather, defending his group of inspectors and the process of selection. While the premature leak was unfortunate, he acknowledged it’s still a very real possibility in the digital age. We talked about the strange Bib Gourmands for less than $40, the bizarre 1 star comparisons (Crofton and Topolobampo?) and what it will take for the Guide to be around next year (unlike L.A. and Vegas editions, which are no longer in print). Did I mention that Connie’s Pizza and Rosebud made this year’s Guide, but Prairie Fire did not?
