The first wave of migrating birds should be in Chicago right about now. But some of them have been delayed.  Joseph Lill is President of the Chicago Audubon Society.  He says frozen waterways have stymied migrating puddle ducks.

LILL:  Some of them we do see come up early and then go back.  Just because they can fly north, doesn’t mean they’re not capable of flying back south if they don’t find what they want.

As temperatures inch up, Lill says the ducks will make their appearance. Warmer weather will also welcome sparrows to the area as early as this weekend. Warblers and other tropical song birds will start arriving in May.
