Little history for you today: On this day in 1974, President Nixon resigned.

Students on the Track E started school today. The year-round track in Chicago Public Schools has the same number of days as the traditional track but with vacation days more spread out.

Illinois is behind in paying for school transportation and rural districts are affected the most. Paula Hawley, the superintendent of Pikeland School District said the district will have to move money away from the classrooms to pay for transportation. Other districts may cut routes or have students walk further to catch the bus.

Low enrollment at Eastern Illinois University means several floors of dorms will remain empty this year. Officials say the university wants to use resources efficiently while enrollment is down.

Jack Daniel McCullough, 71, is scheduled for a second hearing today regarding the kidnapping and murder of a 7-year-old girl in 1957.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn inked two new wind-energy bills. One creates a council to study the potential of wind energy projects in Lake Michigan. The second allows counties to establish wind-farm districts.

Milk prices have jumped more than 40 percent over the past year as sugar prices have inched up as well. Bad news for ice cream makers, good news for ice cream eaters. Ice cream manufacturers have said the bad economy means they cannot pass on the prices to the customers.

Monday on “Venture,” investors are waiting to see how the market will react to Standard & Poor’s downgrade. Foreclosures numbers will be out later this week. WBEZ’s Dan Weissman looked at how one company benefited from the uptick in foreclosed homes – a company which cleans up after a foreclosure.
