Sunny, hot and humid is the forecast today for New Orleans. Ten years ago it was a completely different story as the Big Easy was bracing for what would become one of the five deadliest hurricanes in US history. Hurricane Katrina displaced thousand of residents, scattering them to places as far flung as Chicago. Two former New Orleans residents who now call Chicago home reflect back on Katrina and their decision to flee their hometown. We also talk with playwright Rob Florence about his midwest premiere of a play chronicling the true stories of six Katrina survivors. And there’s another notable anniversary…this one with Chicago roots. 60 years ago today, 14-year-old Emmett Till was murdered while visiting relatives in Money, Miss. His brutal murder was a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement. A cousin of Emmett Till joins us to talk about his lasting legacy. We’ve also got the moody and heavy sounds of Austin musician Devin James Fry.
